AWARD-WINNING DOC “MY RUN” TAKES A SPIRITUAL JOURNEY TO MOVIE THEATERS NATIONWIDE

Premiere Event Includes Q&A with A Real-life Forrest Gump
Broadcast to More than 500 Select Movie Theaters

FOR A ONE-NIGHT-ONLY EVENT ON MARCH 31ST

Los Angeles – March 22, 2011 – Indiewood Pictures, Destiny Pictures and  NCM Fathom presents the family friendly award-winning and critically-acclaimed documentary MY RUN in more than 500 movie theaters nationwide for an exclusive one-night event on Thursday, March 31 at 7:00 p.m. Narrated by Academy Award® winner Billy Bob Thornton, MY RUN is the inspirational story of Terry Hitchcock, the 57-year-old widower and father who ran from his home in St. Paul, Minn. to the opening ceremony of the Olympics in Atlanta, Ga.

Terry in Pain - My Run
Tickets to MY RUN Premiere Event are available at participating theater box offices and online at www.FathomEvents.com. For a complete list of theater locations and prices, visit the web site (theaters may be subject to change). A portion of proceeds will benefit the LIVESTRONG Foundation.

Presented in association with ACTIVE.com, LIVESTRONG and Life Time Fitness (NYSE: LTM), MY RUN is a tale of two marathons: one began when God called upon Hitchcock’s wife after losing her battle with breast cancer; the other when he set out to honor his wife on a journey to bring awareness and a voice to the struggles faced by single parent families and their children. Hitchcock ran in spite of freezing rain, unbearable heat, chest pains and bone fractures; fueled by his faith and a higher calling he didn’t stop until he crossed the finish line.

Billy Bob Thornton - My Run Narrator
This powerful and uplifting film takes audiences along with Hitchcock as he runs 75 consecutive marathons in 75 consecutive days. Together with his son and support team member, Hitchcock will discuss their journey and share a deeper look into the struggles of the 2,000-mile endurance test in a pre-recorded Q&A following the documentary. Audiences will learn about the emotional and physical toll on Hitchcock after the run and how his faith got him through the toughest of times, which is discussed in this exclusive event.

“It’s truly a story of endurance and faith,” said the Dove Foundation, which awarded MY RUN the “Family-Friendly Seal of Approval.”

MY RUN, directed and produced by Tim VandeSteeg and produced by Mark Castaldo, will be shown in 518 select movie theaters through NCM’s exclusive Digital Broadcast Network.

Vicky DeVita Memorial Women's Trail Running Award and Benefit

Victoria Jane DeVita
March 10, 1953 – November 12, 2010

The Santa Barbara Endurance Run and the DeVita family are proud to announce the formation of the Vicki DeVita Memorial Women’s Trail Running Award.

The female winners of each of the 7 SBER races (15K, 25K, 35K, 50K, 50M, 100K and 100M) will have their names engraved onto small sterling silver label which will be affixed to the base of the perpetual trophy created by accomplished sculptor Shannan Varner, in addition each winner will receive a personalized plaque with the image of the trophy. A donation of five dollars per SBER entrant will be made to charity in Vicki DeVita’s name.

Vicki DeVita was best known in Southern California as the female winner of the 1991 Angeles Crest 100 Miler; however, the SBER organization first knew about Vicki just after our inaugural Blue Canyon Trail Race in June 2009.

We received an e-mail a month after the race informing us that Vicki had completed our 50K while in remission from cancer, but that the cancer had returned.

Despite this terrible prognosis, Vicki and her mother Pat, completed the Los Angeles Marathon in March 2010, and Pat returned to Rancho Los Osos in June to participate in the 2010 Blue Canyon event.

Although Vicki was unable to compete due to her advanced cancer, she hiked out several miles in the middle of the 105-degree heat to run in with her mother. It was apparent to everyone just how great a struggle it was, but her determination and positive attitude was an inspiration to all of us.

On November 12, 2010, Vicki DeVita passed away at the age of 57. As we reflected on her life and our few brief meetings with her, it is an honor to pay tribute to her memory in this manner.

Yes, we need Volunteers!

Santa Barbara Endurance Race is a very unique and exceptional event that hosts some of the nation's toughest Ultra- and Sub Ultra- marathon distance division races ranging from 100 Miles to 15 Kilometers. A race event like this is only possible with an inspired and ambitious crew of volunteers out front and behind the scenes. We are currently building a team of approximately 150 reliable and motivated individuals for the 2011 Santa Barbara Endurance Race to handle the variety of functions that it will take to host and operate this event. Although volunteering can be challenging and exhausting in some cases, the rewards for the adventurous-at-heart are immense, leaving one with lasting memories, new friendships and maybe even the conviction to return as an entrant next year.
As part of our appreciation for your efforts, you can look forward to receiving a full access to the Rancho Oso Guest Ranch and its amenities, Santa Barbara Endurance Race Crew Support T-shirt, fuel stipend, tickets to the pre-race pasta meal, Sunday morning post-race honorable mention, entrant awards breakfast, race day meals and refreshments, 1 raffle ticket, and your name and photo in our post-race photo album.
If you are an entrant and have a partner, family or friend accompanying you to the race, they can help us out with various tasks any time between Thursday at noon and Sunday morning in approximately 3-8 hour shifts.
Any person(s) volunteering from 12pm on Thursday through 12pm Sunday will receive a fully comped entry and camping pass to the inaugural Giving Tree Music Festival (August 23 - 28, 2011) at Live Oak Campground (www.gTmusicfestival.com).

Skills Required

To volunteer, all you need is a positive attitude and willingness to help. We are also looking for people with particular special qualifications:
  • Experienced drivers with 4x4 vehicles
  • Experienced equestrians with horses
  • Medical personnel (doctors, nurses, EMTs)
  • People with Search and Rescue experience
  • Massage Therapists

Volunteer coordination, communication and meetings

From February 1st through March 30th, the Santa Barbara Endurance Race organization will send out a Volunteers' Update by e-mail every two weeks. From April 1st through April 27th, updates will be sent weekly.
On Thursday, March 3rd, and Tuesday, March 15th, Santa Barbara Endurance Race organization will host a Volunteers' Meeting from 6:00 - 7:30pm at Taffy's Pizza (2026 De La Vina Street, Santa Barbara CA 93105). Volunteers are encouraged to attend one or both meetings.
Meetings are developed to familiarize volunteers with:
  • Event Staff
  • The Los Padres Forest Association and how the event benefits and supports the Los Padres National Forest
  • The sport of ultrarunning (so volunteers know what to expect)
  • How to prepare and manage aid stations
  • How to record bib numbers and race times
  • Communication
  • Equipment and operation instructions (water pump, satellite phone, etc.)
  • Transportation to/from race destinations (timing, carpooling, etc)
  • Event regulations, waivers and general awareness
Specific tasks will be assigned to volunteers at both these meetings. Meeting minutes will be e-mailed to volunteers who are unable to attend. Final instructions will be e-mailed to volunteers on Tuesday, April 27th.
We look forward to having you as a volunteer!
If you have any questions, e-mail Volunteer@sber.co or call Race Director Robert Gilcrest at (805) 896-6917.
